Raven Lee Smith

Shihan (Master Instructor) Raven Lee Smith has spent over 40 years compiling a most impressive martial arts résumé.  He has achieved a rank of 7^th degree black belt in 4 systems of jujitsu under Grand Master Kalaii Griffin, Grand Master Ed Parker, Shihan Wali Isalem and Sufi Calvin Bascoms.  He earned a 5^th degree black belt in Kenpo studying six different styles of the art.  Shihan Raven has also spent years studying Chinese and Japanese weapons.  He has extensive training in the styles of Northern Praying Mantis, Mantis Fist and Monkey Kung Fu.

Shihan Raven is the Soke (founder) of the Kenpo Ryu Jujitsu system that blends Japanese Jujitsu with the six Kenpo system.  His system promotes physical fitness, self esteem and self defense with a goal of making students into better people.  His students become self defense practitioners as well as experts in sparring.  They are all well-schooled in weapons and Taikyoku forms.

Shihan Raven spent over 40 years competing on the national circuit.  He competed against former New England Patriots linebacker Andre Tippett, and Mike White of the movie Spawn fame.  His personal friends include world famous Tae Bo founder Billy Blanks and the legendary Bill “Superfoot” Wallace.  He has served as personal security for prominent stars such as Keith Sweat and Al B. Sure.

Raven Lee Smith’s martial arts reputation is impeccable.  Not to be overlooked is his outstanding character as well.  He has worked for 20 years as a security guard at East Hartford High School where he has performed countless interventions with high school aged students.  He has worked in local YMCAs and local Boys and Girls clubs.  Raven Lee Smith is as outstanding an individual as he is an accomplished martial artist.

Shihan Raven is the current striking coach for Team Silver Dragon.  He is now a member of the
Martial Arts Hall of Fame.  His outstanding record and invaluable experience bring a unique
addition to Team Silver Dragon.  His patient demeanor and focused energy make his classes
fun and challenging.  Team Silver Dragon is thankful for his efforts and is elated that he has
chosen to share his expertise with the team.
